Style Tutorial from the Golden Globes

 By Gbenga 'Artsmith' Dada

An access to the red carpet images from the recently held Golden Globes is like an all expense paid trip to fashion heaven. Attendees of the annual film award ceremony/fashion parade came in with a clear ambition to kill- with their stunning appearances. They also, in a roundabout way, gave style tutorials for the benefit of fashion buffs. Here are a few of the style tutors:

Lupita Nyong'o

This dark-skinned rave of the moment "ministered" life in her fiery red Calvin Klein number. Off-shoulder dresses are just perfect for women with svelte figures like Lupita- hey! big-bodied women too can rock off-shoulder clothes; but if you must wear them, make sure the collar is taut around your shoulder so you don't reveal too much of meaty flesh and/or stretch marks. Also, notice how Lupita coordinated this look; she's not piling on jewelry (which would have clashed with the vividness of the supreme red dress). Lupita finally nailed it with the floor-sweeping cape...vie gorgeousse (pardon my french please...at least you read the word gorgeous! Lol). Her dress is not too much or too less- know what I mean?

Kerry Washington

How many times do you see a 'preggo' lady looking so hot she could give the sun a tan? Once? Never? Kerry was everybody's sweetheart on the red carpet. She proved that simplicity (and a baby bump) can be sexy, if you know how to pull it off. Her laidback, but elegant look is one to emulate.

Zooey Deschanel

This lady deftly combined girl-next-door with Prom queen in just one outfit. Who would have thought cropped blouse over a billowing tulle skirt could look so good for a black-tie event. The choice of fabric for Zooey's ensemble did the magic big time: it gave the edgy ensemble a sophisticated air that caught positive attention. It's very ok to be adventurous with your style on the red carpet.

Uma Thurman

The "Kill Bill" star gave darkness a mysterious beauty that only a dress like hers can give. The fit of  her embellished "Atelier Versace" attire is to die for. The dress hugged her body in all the right places and also tickles one's imagination (she's not flashing flesh excessively, making her look modestly covered up and hot at the same time). Over-the-top exposure really passes less than savoury signals, dolls. Uma sure led the pack among the "black angels" on the red carpet that night.

Sandra Bullock

Oh dear! Did Sandra look fabulous? She literally took a dive into a color palette and came out looking drop-dead...(read my lips)...drop-dead fantastic! This is how to cohesively match colors without taking the risk of looking like the latest hireling on a clown show! Sandra definitely brought in her fashion A-game at Golden Globes. Good job girl!

These stars are just random picks among the best-dressed stars at Golden Globes. Who else do you think deserves to be on the list?
