Looking for my Johnny...Part 1

Hello dear,

Sorry I have been away for so long. I have been working on several clothing collections. Over the next few days, I'll present one of these collections in details.

I have had the idea for this collection for quite a while; I wanted to collaborate with a male designer while telling the story about love, particularly how it can start unexpectedly and in the most mundane places. The collection has been tagged ‘Looking for my Johnny’ after the popular song. It’s about a young lady in search of ‘Mr Right’ but for some odd reason keeps missing him even though they happen to be at the same venues. It will feature outfits designed by Tee-Threads Fashion and Kola Kuddus.

With love you just don’t know where you will meet ‘The One’. It might be the next door neighbour, the person you work with on that project at work, the one you meet regularly at the supermarket or maybe even the person who sits next to you on the rare occasion at church.

The story of this shoot brings to mind the Kelly Rowland song ‘Strange places’. The lyrics go; ‘Love lives in strange places; it’s the obvious that never shows. It just might find you when you least expect it. You’ll never know until you just let go’.

Thinking of Johnny…

Meet our young lady; she’s home thinking of Johnny, who he is and where she might meet him. She imagines herself with him but has no idea he is somewhere in her immediate vicinity.

She’s dressed in a pink, silk belted romper with multi-coloured rhinestone embellishments on the neckline, and a lacy back.

When in doubt...wear RED

Hello lovely people

I'm posting today on an outfit I made for those days when you don't know what to wear but want a 'comfy' yet versatile attire; versatile because it can be dressed up or down. The dress is a maxi, bodycon and off shoulder, and made from a combination of red jersey and cotton lace fabrics. I wore a scarf my bro in-law got me from China as a waist belt. I love the looped chain detail and think it works perfectly with the dress. I accessorized with gold loop earrings and rings that compliment the gold of the belt. My shoes are a pointed, heeled, color block pair which are predominantly red which give the outfit a monochrome look.

The Little White Dress

Hello dearies,

Today's post is all about making outfits versatile. I recently went through my wardrobe and discovered I had quite a number of short dresses I hadn't worn in years. The reason for their lack of use I guess would be length (makes me wonder why I bought or sewed them in the first place, *:-?). Most of these dresses were only appropriate for nights out/evening events which I really don't attend much of. Anyway, I found it hard to part with them so I started thinking of how to re-purpose them for other events such as church, work, meetings and lunches.

One of such dresses is the little white piece I'm wearing in this post which I made a while back. I have simply transitioned it from one mode to the other by wearing a blue high-waisted pencil skirt over it and matching with appropriate accessories. I have basically taken the same item of clothing from a daytime look to an evening one. How's that for recycling your wardrobe!

Bridesmaids Inspiration: Grey

Hi dears,

Today's post features a grey floor length dress that can be worn by bridesmaids or the bride as a reception dress. I made it from stretchy silk satin and lace, using the lace patterns to create the details in the front and cover the satin on the sleeves. The dress is form fitting and then flows into a mermaid style with a tail behind. The dress sleeves are off-shoulder cap sleeves which allows for bold neck accessories.

From Sketch to Life

Hey lovelies, hope you all had a great weekend. Today's dress was designed for Funlola Aofiyebi-Raimi, she wore it to a traditional wedding a few months ago. The sketch below was sent to her for approval after which the dress was made. It is a floor length, sleeveless gown made from raw silk and lace. The details on the neck, lower bodice and back were achieved through the patterns on the edges of the lace. The silk and lace are gold in colour because that was one of the wedding colours.

Funlola wore the dress as a traditional outfit, paired with a fuchsia 'gele' and gold accessories. It could also be worn as a formal dress to either a white wedding or some other formal event like I did when I made a replica for myself.
